Air Flow Sensor

Air Flow Sensor is a sensor used to measure air flow that sucked to the engine. Sensor will send information about air quantity to the ECU and ECU will compute data from sensor and send order to the injector to inject amount of fuel to the intake manifold for fuel air formation.

Vane Type

This sensor use a flap to measure air quantity sucked in to the engine. The greater air sucked the greater fuel will be injected to the manifold. This means, the angle of flap will be greater when air flow is high.
Vane Type

Hot Wire Air Flow Meter measure volume and density of air sucked to engine to calculate correct amount of fuel to be injected.The sensing element is a very fine wire of platinum alloy, just 0.7 millimeters (less than 0.003 inches) in diameter, strung across the interior of housing through which all the incoming air stream has to pass. The wire is heated by an electric current, but cooled by the passing air stream. An electrical circuit adjusts the current passing through the wire so as to maintain it at a temperature that is consistently 180° F above that of the entering air. Thus, if the air temperature is 80° F, the wire will be running at 260° F; if the air is at 30° F, the wire temperature will be at 210°. The current required to maintain this equilibrium is a measure of the mass of air passing the wire, and is used as the principal signal to the ECU as to air quantity.

Mercedes StaR diagnosis

This document describes the Mercedes Star Diagnosis system. In Germany this is known as 'Star Diagnose'. Star Diagnosis is also known as SDS or DAS by Daimler Chrysler, although the acronym DAS is also used for the electronic key system.
It briefly covers the J2534 system that Mercedes make available in the USA for updating and configuring the emissions related systems on Mercedes vehicles
Star Diagnosis (SDS) is a complex system that consists of various parts:

1. Ruggedised Laptop, or Laptop in special cradle
2. Multiplexer
3. Cables
4. DAS Software (The 'Star Diagnosis' program)
5. Optional MT measurement system.
6. Optional WIS (workshop information system) software

Over time it has been available in various forms, each new release containing faster/better hardware.
The two ranges of Star Diagnosis are known as the 'Basic' range and the 'Compact' range.
The Star Diagnosis Basic range has essentially a much lower specification ruggedised PC, and thus is not sold with the ability to interface to the MT system to have WIS, or to use the latest wireless multiplexer.
The current 'Star Diagnosis Basic' system is known as the 'Star Diagnosis Basic2', and the current Star Diagnosis Compact system is the Star Diagnosis Compact 3W system.

Basic 1 - Ruggedised PC made by IME Actia with Celeron 400Mhz processor, 128MB memory and 20GB har drive with Windows NT 4.

Basic 2 - Ruggedised PC made by IME Actia with Mobile Celeron-M 600Mhz processor, approx 512Mb memory and 60GB hard drive, 10.4" XGA screen, with Windows XP. It has USB 2 serial ports, the pen is tied to the system and its a blue colour as oppose to the grey Basic 1 system

Bosch KTS 670

The New KTS 670 features a touch screen which is operated by a stylus pen or the tip of a finger. Furthermore, it offers an optimized colour 12.1 SVGA (800 x 600 resolution) TFT display producing a bright clear display with a large reading angle and a variety of new testing and diagnostic capabilities. This tester is a futureproof development of the field-proven KTS 650 which has been the industry standard for the past five years. Using the KTS 670 and the Esitronic workshop information system a workshop has all the options required for quick and efficient troubleshooting.
The Bosch Esitronic software is run on the Windows XP operating system and is stored on the upgraded 40 GB hard disk of the new PC module integrated into the KTS 650. This software guides the technician through all testing steps and always provides exactly the information required for the vehicle system to be tested. "Computer Aided Service (CAS)" the intelligent combination of control-unit diagnostic data and the data of the troubleshooting instructions; this results in highly efficient troubleshooting. The Esitronic software as well as the updates that are delivered every three months are transferred onto the hard disk of the KTS 670 by an external DVD drive.

KTS670
In contrast to its predecessor model the KTS 670 now features a new higher specification Dual-channel oscilloscope &multimeter for voltage, resistance current & scope measurements. The Dual-channel oscilloscope provides 1x10 Mega Samples or 2x5 Mega Samples. The diagnostics oscilloscope, can now be controlled by the new multiplexer technology. Channel 1 on the oscilloscope can be operated at the same time as the control unit diagnostics allowing the signal from the components and the associated actual value at a glance. Channel 1 is also potential-free, channel 2 is potential-bound, both have a high input impedance. Thus providing an oscilloscope integrated for simultaneous evaluation of two components.
